From lecturer to dynamic consultant
Evelyn Malatji Nagel recently started at the Pretoria office as consulting psychologist, responsible for assessments of candidates from various organisations and maintaining relationships with existing clients while expanding services to prospective clients.
Evelyn, what does a typical day on the job entail for you?
Well it usually starts with ensuring that I have not missed much between 17h00 and 8h30, so I check my emails, responding to those that are urgent first. I also ensure that everyone at the office is fine and geared up to face a busy day. Then the interacting with clients starts, making sure they are taken care off, and ensuring that all the work that needs to be out for the day is ready and sent.
I would than get into report writing myself while at the same time guiding and mentoring other members of my team. The most important task I have is to ensure that we deliver according to the client's needs and expectations.
At what institute did you lecture before joining Work Dynamics?
The University of Pretoria's Department of Psychology.
Do you miss lecturing?
Honestly, yes sometimes I miss the academic environment as I have been there for a while. However the challenge of working in consulting is exciting and dynamic and it remains a work in process. Like all things new it is a major change from where I had been.
What made you decide to pursue a career at Work Dynamics?
The opportunity of expanding my expertise and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I see it as growing in a new direction.
What do you like most about working at Work Dynamics?
I really enjoy the people here as well as the level of professionalism. The climate is supportive, the learning experience is phenomenal - every day you learn something new.
Something a bit more personal, how do you relax in your spare time?
Well, since I've been working here I haven't had much time to relax, but nothing beats spending time with my family and not having to think about work.
Favourite restaurant?
A home cooked meal.
Who inspires you and why?
Positive black woman who are able to overcome life's obstacles and have the greatest man on their side - GOD. That's my mom!
